Downtown Poets!

July 17-20, 24-27

10:00 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Our two-week summer camp for teen poets is back! We held Downtown Poets from 2017-2019 and again in 2021. We are so excited to be back at the Washington State History Museum (and so grateful to them for hosting us).

  • LOCATION: Washington State History Museum (1911 Pacific Ave.)
  • Camp is open to poets and artists of any skill level ages 15-18, up to rising seniors.
  • Camps are free and snacks will be provided.
  • Camp is limited to 18 total participants.
  • We are doing our best to ensure geographic, racial, and gender diversity and equity among our campers. Poets from historically underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply.
  • If you have any questions, please contact Asha Berkes at asha@write253.com

What will we do at camp?

  • We will spend time exploring the museum and writing prompts based on exhibits.
  • We will explore downtown as the classroom with visits to other downtown locations, such as the Tacoma Farmers Market and other museums and outdoor spaces.
  • We will write together in a supportive artistic community.
  • We will read works by published poets and talk about how poetry helps shape our lives.

FAQs

  • I am new to poetry writing. Is this camp a good fit for me?

Yes! We encourage writers of all levels to join us.
